Best Apple Orchards in Minnesota
Best Apple Orchards in Minnesota

Fall is one of the best times of year in Minnesota. Since the season is short and sweet, it’s hard to fit in all the activities but an absolute must do is visiting an apple orchard (or two!). It can be hard knowing which one(s) to visit but thankfully there’s a great resource available. Read on for how to find the best apple orchards in Minnesota and about our day visiting one of them!

Minnesota Grown is an amazing resource to find not only the best apple orchards but also pumpkins (and other agricultural goods) across the state. You can either search for orchards near you based on your zip code and distance willing to drive or you can simply use the map functionality to zoom in on the area(s) you’re interested in. Since we wanted to stay within an hour of the Twin Cities, we searched “Minneapolis” and “50 miles.”

We decided on the family friendly (and popular!) Luce Line Orchard & Winery.

We had heard great things and were excited to finally visit. Here are our highlights :

Delicious Apples

This probably goes without saying but when looking for the best apple orchards in Minnesota to visit, high quality apples is at the top of our criteria list!

Luce Line Orchard offers a large variety of U-Pick and pre-picked apples including varieties developed by the University of Minnesota such as the popular Honeycrisp, Haralson, SweeTango, First Kiss and Sweet Sixteen. Ryan said the Honeycrisp was the best apple he’s ever had!

Gorgeous Setting

The family that owns Luce Line Orchard has clearly put a lot of effort into their orchard and has created a gorgeous setting. Beyond the natural beauty of the rolling hills, they’ve worked the land to include rows of apple trees, vines, a corn maze, nature trails, pumpkins and more. You are essentially being invited to their home as it sits at the heart of everything. They’ve also done a beautiful job setting up fall decor around the outside of their home for photo spots.

Tons of Fun Activities

You could easily spend the entire day at the orchard because of all the fun activities! Some of the activities include: a giant jumping pillow, hay rides, kiddie train, little tot zip line, corn maze, corn tent, nature trail, farm animals, basketball hoops, and more.

Delicious Food and Drinks

Luce Line has great food options that are freshly made! We enjoyed a hamburger, veggie burger, apple fritters, elote (Mexican Street Corn), and an apple sundae. They also have state fair fries, hot dogs, brats and many other locally produced food goods in the market.

Beyond the food, check out their apple infused sangrias and cocktails (for adults), traditional apple cider and apple inspired coffee drinks.

There’s even a beer garden to enjoy the drinks and food in!

Local Minnesota Goods Market

Speaking of the market, you’ll find a bunch of curated items from local Minnesota makers. You can even create custom gift baskets made up of the speciality local items. Don’t forget to treat yourself too!

Family Owned + Operated

It is so clear how much love and work has gone into Luce Line Orchard. The owners, Terri and Rich, love what they do which shines through in how they share their home and land with the public. You’ll find not only them but their entire family and many of their friends working at the orchard. Everyone was so kind and friendly which made our experience so wonderful. It’s evident others love visiting too as the lineup for parking was long starting shortly after opening so make sure you arrive early! Like the field of dreams, Terri says, and she couldn’t be more right.

I hope you’re ready and excited to check out some of the best apple orchards in Minnesota near you. Check out Minnesota Grown for spots to visit this year and add your favorites in the comments!

The Ecker’s Apple Orchard has a Brew Farm, the BEST carmel apples and wonderful pie….plus the standard orchard fair. The Hootenanny (coming-up on the 15th) is a wonderful way to enjoy the Farm, apples, beer and music.

p.s. Don’t forget to check out the trempealeau hotel river view (from the restaurant/patio) and Walnut Burger (vegetarian, but tasty) as well as the music.

p.p.s. Elmaro Vineyard offers a great river valley view and above average wines.
