Winter in Minnesota can feel long, dark and cold so planning a getaway can be the perfect respite. While some may prefer to hop on a plane for warmer weather, the beauty of winter in Minnesota means a local getaway is a great option too. These 6 Great Minnesota Winter Getaway Ideas incorporate elements of coziness, adventure and great food. Which one are you checking out first?!
Grand View Lodge, Nisswa

The ultimate Minnesota winter destination is Grand View Lodge. There’s so much do to right on site. Highlights include: indoor pools, outdoor heated hot tubs, winter activities such as cross-country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, skating and ice fishing on Gull Lake, Glacial Waters Spa, Igloo dining, horse-drawn carriage rides on Saturdays, and great restaurants. The lodge is also a marvel and on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Cuyuna Cove, Crosby

An underrated winter getaway is Crosby, Minnesota. I love the fat tire biking trails along the old mine lakes and cozy cabin options. One of my favorite stays is Cuyuna Cove which offers tiny cabins and two pairs of snowshoe rentals included in your stay. After a day of adventuring, warm up in their redwood sauna on site. Plus, the Main Street offers great coffee, food and a brewery if you don’t feel like cooking in the kitchenette.

NEW! Hotel 44° North, Winona

Winona Minnesota is one of my favorite places to visit and makes for a great Minnesota Winter Getaway. From shopping the numerous local shops, to ice skating on Lake Winona, to one of the most unique activities: ice climbing! Set above the city with amazing views is the ice climbing park. I’ve previously tried ice climbing in Sandstone Minnesota and have Winona as next on my list!

Check out more things to do in Winona in other seasons here. There’s also a brand new boutique hotel in Winona called Hotel 44° North I plan to visit soon. Beautiful, modern rooms, an indoor hot tub, pool and sauna, and breakfast included.
Bluefin Bay, Tofte

Visiting Minnesota’s North Shore is beautiful in every season but there’s something extra special about winter. From exploring nearby winter hikes to skiing at Lutsen to enjoying the outdoor hot tub overlooking Lake Superior, there are many activities to enjoy. Simply enjoying the view of Lake Superior from your unit is a great option and well.
Hotel Crosby, Stillwater

Stillwater is a classic getaway option and for good reason. With a main street full of great restaurants and shops, a beautiful location along with Mississippi River and boutique hotels, Stillwater offers a great mix of indoor and outdoor experiences. For those embracing the cold, try skiing at Afton Alps, snowshoeing at Afton State Park (rentals available), or ice skating at the rink at Water Street Inn. I loved staying at Hotel Crosby and enjoyed their outdoor rooftop hot tub. Lora Hotel is another gem option.
Have I convinced you to plan a Minnesota Winter Getaway yet?! Where else would you add to this list?
