5 Reasons to Visit Dick’s House of Sport Minnesota

Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and all four seasons so we get to enjoy tons of sports. From winter sports like hockey, ice skating and ice fishing to warmer weather sports like track and field, baseball, golf and more. As a one stop shop for these sports, Dick’s House of Sport Minnetonka not only offers the gear needed but also fun related experiences and services.

One of only three in the country, Dick’s House of Sport Minnetonka is an experiential store to explore the future of retail. Opening recently in May 2022, Dick’s just added even more fun with their own ice skating rink.

1. The New Ice Rink

Dick’s House of Sport in Minnetonka recently converted the Outdoor Field & Track into an ice rink measuring 60-feet wide x 100-feet long. The rink is open now through the end of February 2023.

I had a chance to test out the ice and had a blast! They keep it smooth for an enjoyable experience and have lights so you can skate into the evening.

There are skates available to rent for $5 if you don’t have your own. There are also guides available on a first come basis for kids to use for stability.

Upcoming events on the ice include: Learn to Skate Sessions, Soccer on Ice, Broomball, 3v3 hockey tournaments and more. The rink is also available for rentals for private ice time, community events, team hockey practice and more.

Fees for open skate ice time are:

• Adults (12 years and older): $8
• Children (under 12 years): $5

If you have your own skates, bring them and get them sharpened with DICK’S House of Sport offers Sparx™, an ice skate sharpening service at $8 per pair of hockey or figure skates. It’s complimentary for first-time skates purchased in-store!

2. Fun Activities

There are also a ton of other experiencial based activities in store that make it an amazing destination.

In the Spring & Summer the ice rink converts to a 20,000 square-feet turf field (made with plastic pelts recycled from the option!) with a two lane running track.

Additional in store experiences we saw include swinging bats in the HitTrax batting cage, practicing your golf swing in a simulator or putting green and rock climbing a 35 foot climbing wall with auto-belay system & bouldering wall. You can make reservations in store or online.

The rock climbing wall is available for open climb, classes, birthday parties, fundraising events, and team building activities. Sounds like an amazing way to spend time with friends or co-workers!

3. Huge Inventory of Adventure Brands

I love that Dick’s House of Sport is a one stop shop for top brands across many sports. Some of my favorites for outdoor winter sports that I found are Sorel, Patagonia, Cotopaxi and local brands Askov Finlayson and Up North Trading Co. I also saw my favorite Hydro Flask and YETI products.

I learned about inclusive brand CALIA which is Dick’s private label brand and brought home a new bag from the line. It’s high quality and I’m excited to use it this winter.

If you’re looking to train for a race like I am (perfect way to stay motivated in the winter!), Dick’s offers a Gait Analysis Treadmill too.

4. Community Events at Dick’s House of Sport Minnetonka
