Canoe Bay

As the only Relais & Châteaux property in the Midwest, and featured by Condé Nast Traveler as a top Midwest resort, Canoe Bay is certifiably an incredible place to stay. This peaceful retreat offers the type of respite we all need from the busyness of daily life. We recently visited this adults-only getaway spot to celebrate our anniversary and it was the perfect place to take a pause together. Canoe Bay would also be a great getaway for a solo trip or friends trip. Below are 5 reasons to stay at Canoe Bay (although the list could be much longer!).

Note: we stayed at Canoe Bay as part of a partnership. As always, opinions are my own.

Gorgeous, Luxurious Lodging

The lodges at Canoe Bay are stunning, inspired by the works of Frank Lloyd Wright, and have natural elements including wood and stone. They are also immersed in nature with incredible views. We stayed in the Treetop Signature Cottage and loved it. The beautiful living room has a fireplace with gorgeous stone work and sliding glass doors leading to the deck overlooking the lake. The relaxing bedroom also has a fireplace and attached deck overlooking the lake. Luxurious bedding made us sink right in and sleep peacefully. I loved the tub in the attached bathroom with a big picture window, steam shower and in-floor heating. Every detail felt so intentional and curated to maximize relaxation.

We also toured Edgewood Villa designed by John Rattenbury and some of the newer lake view cabins which were also beautiful. Every option is designed for a luxurious connection to nature. Check out all the accommodations here!

On site is also Canoe Bay Village which is a community of private homes available for purchase. If you’re interested in a private home that offers the same ethos and access to amenities of Canoe Bay resort, it’s a must to check out! They’re also maintenance free so you can focus on relaxation.

Delicious Meals

We were so impressed with the meals at Canoe Bay and even toured the organic garden the Chef sources many ingredients from. The master gardener collaborates closely with the Chef so meals incorporate seasonal organic goods grown right on site. Breakfast and lunch baskets are delivered right to your unit so you don’t even have to leave your cabin. I loved this personal touch, allowing us ultimate relaxation!

Dinner is served at The Inn on property most nights of the week. The dinner menu rotates daily so there’s always something new to enjoy. The Chef was even able to accommodate a vegetarian option for me and it was delicious. I also loved that there were award winning wine and beer options specially selected to complement the meals. The nourishing meals is one of the top reasons to stay at Canoe Bay!

Peaceful Property

The entire property feels like a retreat with tons of walking paths amongst trees and alongside spring-fed lakes. In the summertime, you can take out canoes, kayaks and paddle boards from the boat house or swim right in the lake. In winter, you can enjoy snowshoeing the many trails. I loved all of the comfortable chairs positioned at various spots so we could simply rest and enjoy the views together. If you’re looking for more indoor relaxation, the Lodge has an incredible library you can borrow books from and even read fireside. All of these amenities are also available to those who own a unit in Canoe Bay Village.

Incredible Service

The team at Canoe Bay offers incredible service and hospitality. We felt well taken care of, from check-in to meal times to check-out. Everyone works hard to ensure a relaxing stay for guests while also keeping to the background if you’re wanting solo or couple time. They even had turn down service while we were at dinner and packed sparkling waters (as they noticed we enjoyed sparkling over still) with cookies for our drive home.

Location

At just two hours from the Twin Cities, Minnesota, two hours from Duluth, Minnesota, three and a half hours from Madison, Wisconsin and four hours from Milwaukee Wisconsin, Canoe Bay is a quick drive away for a relaxing getaway. Whether you can spare a full week or just a couple nights, the proximity to those of us in larger cities around Minnesota and Wisconsin make it a perfect reason to stay at Canoe Bay.

Have I convinced you to book yet with these 5 reasons to stay at Canoe Bay?! Perfect for a year-round getaway, Canoe Bay should be at the top of your list for a visit soon.
